October Prayer Letters

October 25, 2001

Praise the Lord for a recent national Bashkir-Tatar evangelical congress.  There were 55 participants.  Each participant received two gifts: the first modern Tatar evangelical hymnal, and the first  complete Tatar New Testament.  The congress was a wonderful time for believers from these two ethnic groups to gather for worship, prayer, bible study, encouragement, singing, fellowship, and discussion about how to best take the good news to their people groups. There were several folks who heard about Jesus as Saviour for the first time during the congress.

Pray for a future congress to be held again next year in another part of the republic.

We ask prayer for Eileen as she is carrying twins who will be due in late April or early May.  Pray for wisdom relating to decision about where the babies will be born.  Pray for good health for Eileen and normal development of the babies, and that they will not be born prematurely.

Pray for a scripture distribution project which is tentatively planned over the next 7 months in various parts of the republic here.  Pray that evangelistic tracts (to be stuffed inside the Bibles) will enable recipients with a method to respond to what they read about salvation in the Bible.

Pray for two new bible studies which have recently begun in the republic. Pray for provision of a room for worship and study for one of the new groups.

Pray for the Jesus film team which is responding to opportunities to show the Jesus film and invite respondents to evangelistic bible studies.

Praise the Lord for the many children and their parents in a local town who are beginning to respond to the good news thru bible studies and special events.  Pray that a room be found to rent for worship services and further bible studies.

Pray that the Lord provide us a cost-efficient place to hold a strategic church-planting conference at the end of November.  So far, 70 individuals have committed to participating in this conference.

Praise the Lord for various individuals who are considering joining our ministry team.  Pray that the Lord would guide them through the appointment process.

Pray that the Lord would provide additional drug-rehab workers at an evangelistic rehabilitation center here in the republic.  This ministry has been greatly needed and greatly effective and it desperately needs further trained workers; drug/alcohol addiction is a massive problem here in the republic and only the delivering power of Jesus will completely set free those in bondage.

If you would be interested in becoming a prayer leader to help build our prayer network, please let us or Jeff Anderson
(stauros@charter.net) know.  Ongoing, intercessory prayer and fasting will be the tools that God uses to tear down spiritual
strongholds and trigger a church-planting movement here in Bashkortostan...does your heart grieve for the lost here as ours does?

We are all well here, although we continue to grieve on behalf of our fellow Americans who are enduring so much insecurity in the USA and other parts of the world.  We would encourage each of you to continue to be on mission with God, who has not relinquished His throne.  Now is the time to boldly push forward to take the good news and the name of God unto all people groups. It is not a time for a retreat, but rather a time to focus and thrust ahead in
God's great mission!!!
