Prayer/Praise
August 2001

August 21, 2001

Prayer requests from Kameel (picture below) and his wife Ola who is a Sunday School teacher:

1. That God will call out local believers who know Tatar and Bashkir to be willing to work in  radio ministry.

2. For the possibility to broadcast evangelistic programs on a more local level instead of having them beamed into the region only thru short-wave.

3. That God will call out/provide teachers for children's Sunday School classes at the main Baptist Church in Ufa (House of Prayer).

4. That the Sunday School teachers would work and serve with reckless abandon, thru God's  motivation and not for people's praise or attention.

5. That all the children who recently attended Christian summer camps would become involved in bible study thru local Sunday School classes.

1. We are conducting a major research project in two phases; first phase (a kind of test-run) will be to survey 100 individuals here in Ufa concerning the media that they most often use to get news and information.  The survey forms also include questions about the surveyee's desire to study the Bible, host a Bible study, and see the Jesus film with friends, family, and neighbors.   The second phase will involve 1000 surveys.  This is the first time such a project has been done in our region.  We need prayer for this project, as it is quite time-consuming and labor intensive.  We expect to complete the project in early December.

2. We will be hosting a church-planting conference during the last week of November.  Charles Brock, a retired IMB missionary/church-planter who worked a number of years in the Philippines, will be leading this conference.  We are praying for 100 participants from all over B-stan. We need prayer for the many logistical conerns, travel preparations, etc, that are involved.

Thanks for praying for the recent showing of the Jesus film at a theatre near our apartment building.  About 200 folks attended part or all of the film.  85 individuals filled out cards indicating they had repented and prayed to receive Christ as Savior and Lord, or wanted more information about Jesus or studying the Bible.  Many evangelicals from Ufa participated in counseling the inquirers and helped them indicate their interest on the
response cards.  Over half of the inquirers have been visited, and we will be helping to visit more of them this week.   Pray that God would provide a place to hold a Bible study for these new believers, and that there would be good response from those yet to be visited in their homes.

Also, pray for a youth conference to be held here in B-stan Aug 20-24.  Pray that the youth would answer God's call to be on mission with him and discover where He is working all around them and how to join Him in that work.

Pray for the first phase of our media research project which got underway on Aug. 5.  Pray for the seven individuals who are conducting the surveys, that they will discover how folks here in Ufa best receive information that affects daily choices.  Pray for the surveyors, as they ask strategic questions about folks' desire to study the Bible, host Bible studies, and possibly view the Jesus film with friends and family in their homes.

Pray for two new believers in the small town of Voznecenka.  Pray that they will be properly discipled challenged to help their small group grow and reproduce itself quickly into more bible study groups.  Praise the Lord for the 27 folks who have testified to their newfound faith this summer thru their public baptisms!

Thank you for praying,

Chris
