January, 2005 Prayer Letters

 Jan5 2005

Dear Friends,

Please pray for Team Ufa’s Larry Moon. Early on Jan 6 (Ufa time, which is 11 hours ahead of Central Standard Time) he will embark on an evangelistic expedition trip with 7 other believers from Ufa.  They will be driving for two days into the northwestern part of Siberia where they will visit multiple villages and churches in the coming 2 weeks.  Pray their path to be prepared by the Lord; pray that the Lord be stirring in the hearts of folks with whom the expedition will come into contact with; pray for the 8 team members’ health and safety, as this expedition carries a certain amount of difficulty because of the extreme cold, road conditions, and other likely obstacles with which they will be confronted; pray for boldness and witnessing confidence for Larry and the other team members; pray for them to meet “persons of peace” (Luke 10) in different villages, who will open the door for the gospel to be spoken.

The team is going to visit the region known as Khanti (HAWN-tee) Mansisk (Man-SEESK).  At times, there will not be any roads where they will travel; they are going in 4-wheel drive Russian and American jeep-type vehicles; at times, they will have to blaze their own trail and even cross frozen creeks and perhaps even a river or two.

We admire the adventurous spirit and pioneering approach of these brave believers! Stand with us for God to gain glory from their work!

Thanks for your strategic prayer support!

Chris

1) Team Ufa asks you to pray for the Carr family. International passport rules stipulate that you must have at least 6 months left until your passport expiration in order to apply for a visa. Unfortunately, young Heather Carr does not. And so, Chris and Eileen must fly to Moscow tomorrow (January 30th – the evening of January 29th Stateside) to apply for a new passport at the American Embassy. Josie Moon will be taking care of the Carr five while they are away and “Uncle” Larry will drop in mid-day to take the kids sledding. Pray that the Carr’s trip to Moscow will be successful and that the Lord’s protection might be upon both those who are journeying to the Russian capitol and those who are staying behind.

2) Praise God that he used the New Life Oklahoma Team’s sojourn with Team Ufa to bring one young woman to Christ! The young lady named Elena has attended a few of Grace’s Tuesday night Bible studies but has yet to gather together with believers for worship. Pray that the adversary does not take away the young and tender shoots of Elena’s rebirth. Grace is currently teaming with the Ufa Bible Church and Team Ufa in sponsoring an evangelical English class that centers on the Jesus film. Pray that when the last classes meet at 7 A.M. and 9:30 A.M. Eastern Standard Time on January the 8th, a number of the students will not only have improved their English, but will come to Christ in repentance having accepted the forgiveness of sins and salvation that can only be found in Him.

3) Team Ufa asks you to pray for an excursion that the Russian Baptist Association of Bashkortostan will be undertaking in January. The plan is to drive north and east of Bashkortostan past the Tyumen oil and gas fields to the area around the Siberian city of Khanti-Mansisk. The excursion will begin on January 7th and last for some 24 days. It will be divided into two parts with two teams each visiting remote village churches for 12 days. There are very few if any paved roads in the area and most dwellings lack indoor plumbing and/or electricity. Team Ufa’s Larry will be among the brothers going. Pray that God might protect the men from illness, the bitter cold, physical harm, mechanical breakdown, and the schemes of the evil one. Pray that God might use them to encourage churches and reach the lost of the Tyumen Oblast’. This is a dangerous trip, so pray that all who go - survive.

4) Team Ufa asks you to pray for Strategy Coordinator Chris Carr who will be traveling to Moscow early on January 17th (late on the 16th in the States) for consultation with staff there, before continuing on to Prague in the Czech Republic for a meeting with the International World Changers organization. He will be returning on the 22nd. Pray that the Lord might protect him in transit and that his meetings in Moscow and in Prague will be fruitful. Pray that the Lord will give his wife Eileen strength as she stays behind to care for their five children.

 5) Team Ufa asks you to pray for the Sipailovo (sea-PIE-lava) district of Ufa. The bedroom district of Sipailovo is home to some 100,000 souls, and yet has no Christian church or witness. A believer in the U.S. agreed to fund the renting of an apartment which will serve as a beachhead for evangelism in the area, but we have not yet been able to find a suitable apartment. As soon as we do so, Chris, Larry, and a number of Russian brothers will be braving the winter cold to distribute Christian literature and invite Sipailovo’s residents to evangelical films and Bible studies. Pray that God might lead us to the right rental arrangement. Pray that God might unify the international team that will be assembled around a single goal - glorifying Christ by seeing His name proclaimed in Sipailovo. Ask the Lord to protect us from squabbling, from illness, the authorities, and more importantly from the evil one and the spiritual wickedness in high places that he controls. Pray that God might bring seeking souls to the studies and fashion for Himself a church from amongst the tens of thousands of lost souls in Sipailovo.

6) Team Ufa asks you to pray for a Sharing Jesus without Fear Seminar in Ufa that will be led by a visiting Brother from Richmond from February 7th through the 9th. Like many American believers, Russian believers tend to leave the task of evangelism to pastors and missionaries. Pray that this conference might nudge the Russian believers closer to a new paradigm with respect to the urgency and necessity of living for what Jesus lived for – to seek and save the lost.

Pray that this seminar will help a number of Russians to realize that every believer is an evangelizing missionary no matter what his or her profession may be.

7) Team Ufa asks you to pray that we might be able to make good use of the rapport and contacts forged with university students during the visit by The New Life Baptist Oklahoma Team in December. A number of the students were asking spiritual questions and seemed to be seeking the Lord. Pray that the Lord might either spur these students to contact us, or enable us to meet up with them again. Pray that a number of them might be saved and have their lives changed forever. One such opportunity will be at a Valentine’s party that Team Ufa will be hosting for university English students. The party will be held anywhere from the 11th until the 13th of February. Pray that we might be able to convey to the students what true love is and that the love of God might convict them of sin, righteousness, and judgment, resulting in repentance and salvation.
