February, 2005 Prayer Letters

 

 Feb 17 2005

 1)      Team Ufa wishes to thank you for praying for Larry while he was on an evangelistic expedition to the Khanti-Mansisk Okrug in western Siberia. God opened many doors that the authorities shut and a great many Khanti, Mansisk, Tartars, Bashkirs, and Russians heard the gospel for the first time. Team Ufa now asks you to pray for Larry as he leads the Ufa Bible Church in the Experiencing God discipleship course from the middle of February until the middle of May. Pray that God will use the course to raise up young leaders within the Ufa Bible Church with a passion to share Jesus with other young people, and a commitment to seeing their church birth other congregations.

 2)      Team Ufa asks you to pray for the Sipailovo (sea-PIE-lava) district of Ufa. The bedroom district of Sipailovo is home to some 100,000 souls, and yet has no Christian church or witness. Praise God, we finally have an apartment in Sipailovo! The task now is to distribute Christian literature and invite Sipailovo’s residents to evangelical films and Bible studies. Pray that God might unify the international, multi-denominational team that has been assembled around a single goal - glorifying Christ by seeing His name proclaimed in Sipailovo. Ask the Lord to protect us from squabbling, from illness, the authorities, and more importantly from the evil one and the spiritual wickedness in high places that he controls. Pray that God might bring seeking souls to the Bible studies and fashion for Himself a church from amongst the tens of thousands of lost souls in   Sipailovo. Pray that God’s name might be proclaimed and glorified in Sipailovo.

 3)       For three and a half months Team Ufa led an English class using Windows to the World, an evangelistic English program that centers around clips from the Jesus film. Unfortunately, when the appeal was made at the end of the well attended class, no one chose to follow Jesus. Nonetheless, Team Ufa believes that God’s Word does not come back void. In that we read from God’s Word in every one of our classes and often openly witness, we believe that the classes are not a fruitless endeavor. And so Team Ufa is again conducting an English class from February until the end of May that will focus on press articles, film clips, and Bible texts. Ask the Lord to give us the wisdom necessary to win souls, and to prepare the hearts of our students to hear the Gospel message.  

4)      Team Ufa asks you to pray that we might be able to make good use of the rapport and contacts forged with university students during the visit by The New Life Baptist Oklahoma Team in December. A number of the students were asking spiritual questions and seemed to be seeking the Lord. Pray that the Lord might either spur these students to contact us, or enable us to meet up with them again. Pray that a number of them might be saved and have their lives changed forever. One such opportunity will be at a Valentine’s party that Team Ufa will be hosting for university English students. Do to scheduling conflicts, the party will be held sometime during the week of the 21st of February. Pray that we might be able to convey to the students what true love is and that the love of God might convict them of sin, righteousness, and judgment, resulting in repentance and salvation. 

5)           Team Ufa wishes to thank you for praying for Chris’ trip to Prague to meet with the World Changer people. The meeting was very fruitful. World Changers will be bringing a large number of young people to Ufa in July to do city service projects, distribute Christian literature, participate in a children evangelism effort, show Christian films such as the Jesus movie and much more. Ask the Lord to put His hand upon Chris Carr and give him both favor with the Ufa civil authorities and wisdom as he engages in the complicated, multi-level planning that the World Changers’ visit will require. Pray that their visit will change the negative opinions that many have about Baptists here. Pray that their visit will change Ufa and the people who live here forever. Pray that we might see a number of Ufimtsi repent and come to faith in Christ during the week the World Changers are in town.  

 

     We thank you for caring for what Jesus cared for – lost souls, and for praying for their salvation, whether they live along I 95, I40, or the White River here in Ufa. Knowing that you are praying for us is one of the highest honors in our lives. And we would be foolish to continue were it not for your prayer cover. For, as you know, we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers, and rulers in heavenly places. Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord and for your partnership with us to reach lost Russian speakers in the mega-city of Ufa.

Dear Friends,

 We have an emergency in Ufa.  A young man named Faiz is fighting for his life.  He is in extreme pain, and needs $11,000 worth of medical care.  Naturally he does not have any money.  We are working to try to obtain some offerings for him.  Here is what Chris has written this afternoon in a letter to me.  I am just going to forward it to you in it’s entirety.

 Aib and another believer transported Faiz (the man I wrote about last Fri who has the torn up spine and inflamed kidneys) to Ufa yesterday and he and his wife Maria stayed with us overnight…they got him checked into the hospital here in Ufa today and got him some medicine and agreement to keep him in hospital for diagnosis…tomorrow, there will be a doctor’s mtg. to determine best course of action, either a kidney removal or trying to remove the large kidney stones…estimated cost is $700 for this first round of treatment, I’ve already given $100 from Eileen and I.  Hospital costs are estimated to be $16 per day, doctor’s fees and medications will be a separate cost.  Any chance you guys or someone you know that can help with rest of costs?

 Jeff, can you send this prayer need out to our prayer supporters?  Faiz is a believer (not sure about his wife) and has put his life in God’s hands.  I am hoping some folks in USA can forward some funds to my dad in Broken Arrow to help with these costs.  I think we are ok for a few days but time will be of the essence soon to get the funds together to save his life.

Dear Friend,

 Would you please pray for the following. . .

 We are planning on having a personal evangelism training event here in Ufa next Mon-Wed evenings…we had a planning meeting today regarding this training, and the Lord miraculously opened the hearts of several of our local pastors who want to really promote this opportunity when they have announcement times during Sunday services…would you all please spread the word and ask God’s people to be praying for this?  Bob Dutton, who serves with IMB in Richmond office staff, will be leading the training…it will be from 6:30-10pm each evening Ufa time (7:30am-11am OK time)…please ask folks to pray intensely for Bob so that the Lord speaks powerfully through him as he provides practical training for the participants in how to use a marked NT to share the gospel…if you have ever heard or participated in the Share Jesus Without Fear training, then that is basically what we are presenting next week.

 Additionally, Bob was asked today by senior Baptist leadership to go to a city south of Ufa and present the training on Sunday…this was totally unexpected but a very pleasant surprise, and thus an opportunity to multiply Bob’s time and effort with us.  Ask folks to pray for him starting OK time on Sat night 11pm and off and on through the night as God enables folks.  

 I will try to give an update on Thursday as to how the training proceeds…we are hoping this training meets an expressed need that we have heard continually by local believers who want to share the gospel personally, with confidence, and clearly.

1) Team Ufa asks you to pray for a Sharing Jesus without Fear Seminar in Ufa that will be led by a visiting Brother from Richmond from February 7th through the 9th. Like many American believers, Russian believers tend to leave the task of evangelism to pastors and missionaries. Pray that this conference might nudge the Russian believers closer to a new paradigm with respect to the urgency and necessity of living for what Jesus lived for – to seek and save the lost. Pray that this seminar will help a number of Russians to realize that every believer is an evangelizing missionary no matter what his or her profession may be. www.hope4ufa.com/
